High School Psychology Award Winners Announced

On May 27, 2026, the Morris County Psychological Association was pleased to honor the winners of the Dr. Joshua Zavin Psychology Award. at a breakfast celebration held at St. Elizabeth University.  2026 Winners: Tied for first place were Gabriel Farkas and Carl Ratigan, both of Roxbury High School, under the guidance of teacher Aristea Theodoropoulos. Gabriel's paper was titled "Bodies on Display," and Carl's was "Benefits from Building Bridges: An Ex Post Facto Analysis of Unified Activities' Influence on Empathy and Altruistic Behavior in High School Students." Third place was awarded to Addison Christian of Roxbury High School and teacher Aristea Theodoropoulos, for the paper "Once Upon a Feeling: Examining the Impact of Social-Emotional Learning Media on Empathy Development in Preschool Children." Honorable mentions went to Grace Hill of Roxbury High School (teacher: Aristea Theodoropoulos) for "From Childhood Abuse to OCD: Examining How Early Parental Behavior Relates to Symptom Development and Severity in Adulthood," and Declan Carranza Webster of West Morris Mendham High School (teacher: Jennifer Brown) for "A Deceptive Landscape: An Analysis of Psychological Mechanisms That Drive the Spread of Misinformation Online.”  

2026 MCPA Dr. Joshua Zavin Psychology Award

On May 27, 2026, the Morris County Psychological Association was pleased to honor the winners of the Dr. Joshua Zavin Psychology Award at a breakfast celebration held at St. Elizabeth University.

A panel of 23 judges evaluated the entries, and the award committee was chaired by Susan Neigher, with members Aaron Welt, Kyle Rundles, and Brenda Stepak.

2026 Winners:

Tied for first place were Gabriel Farkas and Carl Ratigan, both of Roxbury High School (from Succasunna and Landing, respectively), under the guidance of teacher Aristea Theodoropoulos. Gabriel's paper was titled "Bodies on Display," and Carl's was "Benefits from Building Bridges: An Ex Post Facto Analysis of Unified Activities' Influence on Empathy and Altruistic Behavior in High School Students."

Third place was awarded to Addison Christian (from Flanders), also of Roxbury High School and teacher Aristea Theodoropoulos, for the paper "Once Upon a Feeling: Examining the Impact of Social-Emotional Learning Media on Empathy Development in Preschool Children."
