Local History Lecture Series:The History of the Mendham Schools at the Mendham Township Library

Mendham, NJ –

On Thursday, November 19th at 7pm, join President of the Ralston Historical Association, Anne Marie Hornyak as she explores the history of the Mendham Schools at the Mendham Township Library.

School is in and don’t be late! Learn about the history of Mendham's Schools with Anne Marie Hornyak.

Join AnneMarie Hornyak for a night of contrasts. After providing an overview of early schoolhouses in the Mendhams, AnneMarie will share memories (and lots of local pictures!) from her 40 years of teaching in Mendham Township’s Elementary and Middle Schools. Did you have Miss Hornyak as your teacher? Did your children or your grandchildren? If so, you might remember the multimedia class projects she used to engage children in learning and forge application of lessons learned to “real life.”

One year-long project, “Mendham Schools: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow,” was a slide and tape presentation made by Ms. Hornyak’s Fourth Grade Class of 1979-1980. This project celebrated the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Mendham Township Elementary School and shares a student-eye view of its history, especially from the 1950s forward. The children’s work has been reformatted, so that it can be shared with the community tonight.Come and see what Mendham’s talented students developed and how they used their creativity and artistic talents to give us their view of their school: past, present, and future. You may just recognize a name, a face, a picture, or a story from Mendham’s not-so-distant past!

Audience members will receive a free bookmark picturing several of Mendham’s oldest schools, some of which are still standing today and a crossword puzzle “Early American School Days”.
