Chester Day Celebration To Return To Chester Borough This Weekend
The once-a-year event is intended to provide an opportunity for all Chester residents – Borough and Township – to celebrate the community.
CHESTER, NJ — Summer outdoor activities are becoming more popular as the weather warms up. This weekend, join the Chester Borough's Environmental and Open Space Committee and Recreation Committee in celebrating the return of Chester Day.
The once-a-year free event, which will take place on Saturday, May 21, is intended to provide an opportunity for all Chester residents – Borough and Township – to celebrate and give back to the community.
In the morning, all participants can volunteer for a variety of outdoor service projects. There will then be food and family-friendly entertainment.

"We hope to reestablish Chester Day as a yearly tradition and invite you, your family, and your neighbors to join in the fun," said the Chester Recreation Committee.
There are six open service projects that are seeking volunteers, they are listed below:

- Cleaning up streets & parks: site list includes several kid-friendly locations (e.g. Grove St. Park, Seward Hill, Municipal Field, etc.). Please bring gloves &, if you have them, "grabber" tools.
- Weeding, edging, planting, & mulching beds at Chester Area Senior Housing: good for kids & adults. Please bring gloves &, if you have them, a trowel & a steel garden rake.
- Beautifying beds around the municipal complex at 50 North Rd.: cleaning, edging, planting, & mulching. Please bring gloves &, if you have them, a trowel & a steel garden rake.
- Cutting & removing invasive autumn olive (shrub) from Seward Hill: best done with hand saws & loppers. Please bring your own saws & loppers.
- Dividing & replanting pampas grass at Chester Library: best for strong shovelers. Please bring gloves &, if you have them, a shovel & a spade.
- Sanding & varnishing ~20 outdoor "stump seats" at Chester Library: please bring an electric sander. Varnish will be provided. Tops of seats weren't properly sealed, so they need to be sanded & varnished.

Volunteers should gather at Municipal Field at 9:30 a.m. for light refreshments and a briefing before departing for their projects. The community celebration will take place at Municipal Field from 2 to 5 p.m. and will include a live band, juggler, huge inflatable slide, refreshments and other activities.
