Chester Residents: Paving Project To Start Sept. 21

Paving is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 21 and continue through Monday, Sept. 28, 2020.

Beginning the week of Monday, September 21, 2020, and continuing through Monday, September 28, 2020, County Road 513/Route 24 (Main Street), will be milled and paved between U.S. Highway 206 and the intersection of County Road 513/Route 24/Oakdale Road/North Road, with all work being performed between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm daily. Additionally, a separate phase of milling and paving will be completed within and around the intersection of County Road 513/Route 24/Oakdale Road/North Road on Friday, September 25, 2020, between the hours of 7:00 pm and 8:00 am.

Beginning the week of Monday, September 28, 2020, and continuing through the week of October 5, 2020, the remainder of County Road 510/Route 24 (East Main Street), between the borders of Chester and Mendham Township, will be milled and paved.

During this extensive resurfacing project, there will be multiple detours, periods of alternating traffic, and significant traffic delays. While police officers will be posted at various locations to assist with traffic direction, it is highly suggested that motorists plan alternate routes.

Additionally, there will be no parking along CR 513 (Main Street) throughout the project. Parking will be available at the Chester Volunteer Fire Company rear parking lot during the closure. The entrance to the lot is off of Grove Street.

We will get School Buses through the construction zones so that the students can get to school.

All dates and times are tentative due to the nature of the work.

Detours during the week of September 21st, plus September 28th, are as follows:

On Monday, September 21, 2020: Milling of the roadway will start at 7:00 a.m.:

Morning Rush: Eastbound traffic will proceed as normal along CR 513 (Main Street); however, expect delays. All Westbound traffic will be detoured from CR 513 (Main Street), onto Sentry Lane, Fairmount Avenue, Seminary Avenue, Maple Avenue, and back onto US HWY 206.

Afternoon Rush: Westbound traffic will proceed as normal along CR 513 (Main Street); however, expect delays. All eastbound traffic will be detoured from CR 513 (Main Street), onto Seminary Avenue, Fairmount Avenue, Sentry Lane, and back onto CR 513 (Main Street).

On Tuesday and Wednesday, September 22 and 23, 2020: CR 513 (Main Street) between Hillside Road and Oakdale Road will be closed to local traffic only due to milling of the roadway. All non-local eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Hillside Road, Pleasant Hill Road, Furnace Road, Oakdale Road, and back onto RT 24 (East Main Street). All non-local westbound traffic will be detoured from RT 24 (East Main Street), onto Oakdale Road, Furnace Road, Pleasant Hill Road, Hillside Road, and back onto CR 513 (Main Street).

On Thursday, September 24, 2020: Paving of the roadway will start at 7:00 a.m.:

On Friday and Monday, September 25 and 28, 2020: CR 513 (Main Street) between Hillside Road and Oakdale Road will be closed to local traffic only due to paving of the roadway. All non-local eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Hillside Road, Pleasant Hill Road, Furnace Road, Oakdale Road, and back onto RT 24 (East Main Street). All non-local westbound traffic will be detoured from RT 24 (East Main Street), onto Oakdale Road, Furnace Road, Pleasant Hill Road, Hillside Road, and back onto CR 513 (Main Street).

On Friday night, September 25, 2020: Milling and paving of the “Cross Roads” intersection will take place from 1900-hours through 0800-hours. Due to the nature of the work, the entire intersection will be closed, there will be a single lane of alternating traffic from CR 513 (North Road) to RT 24 (East Main Street) OR RT 24 (East Main Street) to CR 513 (North Road). Traffic detours, except for emergency vehicles, is as follows:

1. All Eastbound CR 513 (Main Street) traffic will be detoured onto Sentry Lane, Fairmount Avenue, Seward Place, Larch Drive, Village Road onto RT 24 (East Main Street).2. Traffic from CR 513 (North Road) will be alternated onto RT 24 (East Main Street) and either continue along RT 24 (East Main Street) or detoured onto Village Road, Larch Drive, Seward Place, Fairmount Avenue, Sentry Lane, and back onto CR 513 (Main Street).3. All westbound RT 513 (East Main Street) traffic will either be alternated onto CR 513 (North Road) or detoured onto Village Road, Larch Drive, Seward Place, Fairmount Avenue, Sentry Lane, and back onto CR 513 (Main Street).4. Oakdale Road will be closed to local traffic only. All thru traffic will be detoured onto Furnace Road, Pleasant Hill Road, Hillside Road, and onto CR 513 (Main Street).During the week of September 28 through the week of October 5th: All traffic along the project between the area of Bragg Dickerson School to the Mendham Township Border will be alternated. Expect HEAVY TRAFFIC delays.

We fully understand that this paving project is going to interrupt and affect the daily lives of many of our residents, workers, and visitors to our town. We will have police officers on-site to assist motorists in getting to their destinations. However, we do urge you to plan an alternate route during this project so that it can be completed as quickly and safely as possible.
