Chester School District 2015-16 Calendar

Here are all the important dates families need to know for the coming school year.

An earlier than usual start to the 2015-16 school year kicks off the most important family calendar in town, as Chester students get back in the classroom on Thursday, Sept. 3.

Patch took a look at the district’s calendar and created this easy-to-use breakdown of the new school year. Chester School District is made up of three buildings: Bragg Elementary School, Dickerson Elementary School, and Black River Middle School.

  • September 3: First Day of School
  • September 4: Schools Closed
  • September 7: Labor Day, School Closed
  • September 14: Rosh Hashanah, School Closed
  • September 23: Yom Kippur, School Closed
  • October 12: Columbus Day Weekend, Schools Closed
  • November 5, 6: NJEA Convention, Schools Closed
  • November 25: Professional Development, Students Off
  • November 26, 27: Thanksgiving Break, Schools Closed
  • December 23: Early Dismissal
  • December 24-31: Winter Break, School Closed
  • January 1: Winter Break, School Closed
  • January 18: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, School Closed
  • February 15: Presidents’ Day, School Closed
  • March 25-31: Spring Break, School Closed
  • April 1: Spring Break, School Closed
  • May 30: Memorial Day, School Closed
  • June 24: Last Day of School

The district has built in five inclement weather days for the calendar year. If additional days are needed beyond the allotted amount, the district will open schools on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day first, then Presidents’ Day, and finally April 1 of spring break and work backwards if necessary. If there are remaining emergency closing days, the district will close schools on May 27 and work backwards if needed.
