Chester Seeking Public's Input On Recreation Programs

A new borough survey asks residents what youth, adult and community programs they want to see offered.

CHESTER, NJ — Chester Borough is asking residents to help shape its recreation offerings through a new community survey.

The borough is asking residents what programs they already enjoy, what may be missing, and whether they would be interested in leading a program or sharing a skill with the community.

In the survey announcement, Chester Borough Recreation wrote, "Your voice matters! We’re looking to hear from our residents about our recreation programs."

The online questionnaire focuses on youth programs, adult activities, and community-wide events. It asks residents to identify their age group and whether they have children living at home, then seeks more detailed feedback about the ages of those children.

For youth programming, the survey asks residents to choose from options including sports, fitness or dance, art, music or theater, STEM or coding clubs, outdoor or nature programs, martial arts, summer camps, and adaptive or special needs programs. It also asks what days and times work best for youth programs.

For adult programming, the borough asks about interest in fitness and wellness activities such as yoga, walking groups, and Zumba, as well as adult sports leagues, arts and crafts, cooking and nutrition, music or dance classes, educational workshops, and social clubs. Residents are also asked what days and times work best for adult programs.

The survey also asks what kinds of community events residents most enjoy. Options listed include outdoor movie nights, concerts or live music in the park, seasonal or holiday festivals, farmers markets or craft fairs, family fun days or picnics, and volunteer or community clean-up events.

Chester Borough Recreation also asks whether residents, or someone they know, might be interested in "teaching, coaching, or leading a class or program." The survey gives people a chance to describe their area of interest or expertise if they answer yes or maybe.

The borough wants to know how residents prefer to hear about upcoming recreation programs and events. Choices include the borough website, the borough Facebook page, email newsletters, text alerts, and school emails or newsletters.

Residents who want future updates can provide contact information in the survey, including their name, email, and phone number.
