Off-Duty Troopers Rescue Woman 'Calling For Help' From Burning Morris County Home

Officers saw burning building as shift came to an end in Mt. Olive Monday night, police report.

It was the right place and the right time that led to the life saving of a Morris County woman by two off-duty New Jersey State Troopers Tuesday.

Troopers Adam Gonzalez and Justin Storie had just finished their shift at the Troop “B” Netcong Station when they saw a Mt. Olive home nearby billowing with smoke at 7:30 p.m., Sgt. Jeff Flynn said.

The two troopers jumped into action and entered the home through the front door, Flynn said, walking into heavy, black smoke.

Inside they heard Josephine Maulback, 51, calling for help, Flynn said. Despite the conditions, the officers were able to locate Maulback and rescue her from the home just before it became fully engulfed in flames, Flynn said.

Gonzalez and Storie were taken to Morristown Medical Center for smoke inhalation and minor cuts and abrasions. Maulback was taken to Hackensack Hospital and listed in stable condition. The incident is under investigation by the Mt. Olive Police Department.
