NEW JERSEY - Gov. Phil Murphy repeated the usual refrain of "we're not there yet" when addressing summer camps and daycare centers opening up in New Jersey during his Wednesday COVID-19 briefing. But that may change soon.

"I have a high degree of confidence assuming that the numbers go in the right direction that we can have summer camp activity, we're just not there yet," Murphy said. "And we have a fairly sizeable army working on that right now."

Murphy added youth sports and daycare centers to the mix that the "army" was addressing in terms of providing "a responsible set of guidelines" for opening.

"Please bear with us, we know there is a lot of demand for it we're not sitting on our hands I promise you," Murphy said before adding, "We're not quite there yet."

Murphy likened the situation to the repeated requests for information on in-person graduations, something he approved earlier this week.

"Folks are asking in a similar vein as I was asked, over the past couple of weeks should they continue to hold out hope to have outdoor graduation ceremonies and I said they should continue to hold out hope," Murphy said. "I would say the same thing about daycare and about summer camp. I just can't tell you when."

We're not quite there yet.
