Home Invasion, Burglary Strikes Two Homes in Chester Twp., Cops Say

No weapons shown, but items taken not yet known, police report.

Two homes were broken into Monday night in Chester Township, one of which had the homeowners present and police are advising residents to take precautions.

Both homes, located on Runyan Place, had the front doors forced open, Lt. Thomas Williver said. In one of the burglaries, the homeowners were present and immediately called 911, which led to the burglars fleeing the home, Williver said.

At this time it is unknown how much, if any goods were taken from either home, Det. Brian Gill said. No weapons were reported being seen or brandished during the burglaries, Gill said.

Last week three homes were burglarized in Mendham Township and Morris Township in a single night. In those instances no homeowners were present, and jewelry was stolen from the home. While it is not known if the incidents are connected, the burglaries do look similar, Gill said.

Chester Township police are urging residents to secure their homes whether they are present or away, utilize proper lighting, secure any vehicles in the driveway and immediately report anyone or vehicle that looks suspicious in the neighborhood.
