Lifeguard From Chester Helped Saved Drowning 10-Year-Old: Reports

The young girl was shaken, but uninjured.

CHESTER, NJ — A lifeguard from Chester helped save the life of a drowning 10-year-old down the shore, according to media reports.

Brett Tusinac, 19, a Chester native and Mendham High School graduate, was on a training run with fellow Chadwick Beach lifeguard Matt Schwartz, also 19, the Daily Record reported. The two swam out 50 yards into the ocean with no equipment to save the girl, who was caught in a rip current. She girl was shaken but uninjured; she was not taken to a hospital, the Asbury Park Press reported. Both lifeguards are in their second year working at the beach.

Thanks to their quick actions, the young girl was saved. This rescue follows a deadly summer, with 18 drowning deaths in the past two months.
