Man Killed by New Jersey Transit Train in Morris County Wednesday

Train was east of Dover station when man stepped on tracks, police said.

A man stepped in front of a train and was killed in Randolph Wednesday morning.

New Jersey Transit Police are investigating the death, which occurred just east of the Dover station in Randolph Township at 6:53 a.m. The Morris-Essex train was traveling from Lake Hopatcong to New York Penn Station.

New Jersey Transit explained the reason for delays on its Twitter feed, saying at 7:53 a.m. “#MorrisEssex is suspended between Hackettstown to Denville stations due to a trespasser fatality near Dover station.”

A man positioned himself on the tracks, New Jersey Transit Police said, and made no attempt to move himself out of the way of the oncoming train. There were no injuries to the 28 passengers and employees aboard the train, who were accommodated by another train shortly after the incident.

Delays lasted approximately 45 minutes between Hackettstown and Denville Wednesday morning.
