Mendham Resident Opens Math Learning Center

Mathnasium, a learning center exclusively devoted to math, has been open for weeks but the center is celebrating its grand opening on Thursday.

“We are very excited for our grand opening celebration. We are having a ribbon cutting ceremony, music, food, games and prizes,” said center Director Stacey Cordray. “We will be providing information about our programs and giving special discounts for people who sign up with us. Math can be very intimidating to both parents and children, so we hope the grand opening will show how the Mathnasium Method makes math fun and interesting.”

According to Cordray, Mathnasium is a one-of-a-kind learning center in that it specializes in a math-only curriculum that is tailored specifically to each child, and employs a variety of learning modalities to help each child develop “Number Sense.”

The goal is to significantly increase math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance, while building student confidence and a positive attitude toward school.

“It is very exciting to be a part of helping the kids of our community succeed by offering them an opportunity to develop a better understanding of math concepts,” Cordray said. “Our goal is to eliminate the confusion and intimidation that often accompanies the subject of math and replace it with understanding and passion.”

The Mendham location was chosen by owner Brennan Reilly, who lives down the road from the Mathnasium location, and his sister and co-owner Kim Logsdon. The owners said Mendham is a community that highly values education and feel Mathnasium can provide a valuable service to students and families who want to excel in math. The dream that the sbilings share is to positively impact society by improving education.

Cordray said Mathnasium’s approach is to determine what math concepts the student does or does not understand, then tailor a personalized and prescriptive learning program.

“We feel we have the best math curriculum and assessments in the world. Mathnasium has spent 30 years perfecting our proven and proprietary curriculum that is not available anywhere else. Our professionally trained tutors lead each student through a customized curriculum, assessing progress during every session,” Cordray said. “Because we specialize in math, we can offer the best math instruction available at more affordable rates. The bottom line is Mathnasium students improve their math skills and grow in confidence.”

Cordray said multiple independent studies carried out since 2004 have found Mathnasium to be effective 100 percent of the time, increasing student performance on standards-based tests in 20 sessions or fewer. Student skills jumped at least a grade level and in most cases, multiple grade levels.

“The more your child understands math, the happier we are,” said Cordray.  “We are dedicated to helping students in the Mendham area not only learn math but love math.”
