Resurfacing Of Costly Scam Prompts Warning From Chester Police
The Chester Township Police Department has issued an alert regarding a costly phishing scam.
CHESTER, NJ — The Chester Township Police Department has issued an alert to residents and local businesses regarding a recent scam. This scam has been reported in nearby towns and involves emails requesting payment for permits or applications.
These fraudulent messages often claim to be from the town. The emails may appear official, and the sender's address might look similar to a legitimate township email address. However, the sender is not affiliated with the town and is attempting to defraud the recipient.
The scam emails typically demand payment through wire transfer, Green Dot card, or other unusual payment methods. The Chester Township Police Department reminds the public that municipalities and the police department will never request payment via wire transfer, Green Dot card, or other suspicious payment methods. Government agencies do not demand immediate payment through email using these specific methods.
