Several Infrastructure Upgrades Coming To Chester This Summer: See Details
Mayor Tim Drag provided an update on several township projects and upgrades taking place this summer.
CHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Road work, pedestrian safety upgrades, emergency preparedness investments and park improvements are among several projects currently underway across Chester Township, according to Mayor Tim Drag.
"It’s project season here in Chester Township," Drag said in a recent community update outlining infrastructure and quality-of-life initiatives taking place throughout town.
Among the largest projects is the paving of North Road. Morris County has begun preparatory work ahead of resurfacing the roadway from the South Road area near Black River Fields into Chester Borough. Contractors have started basin excavation work, and township officials are urging motorists to use caution while crews are working in the area.

Safety improvements are also coming to the crosswalk connecting Black River Fields and Highlands Ridge. The township is installing new signage, enhanced pavement markings and solar-powered, push-button flashing beacons designed to improve visibility for pedestrians crossing between the recreational areas.
Curbing installation is scheduled to begin this week, while signage has already been ordered. Final road markings will be completed after roadway striping is finished.

The township is also expanding access to lifesaving emergency equipment. Following a Township Council vote earlier this year, automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are being installed at township facilities and athletic fields.
The township has contracted with Cintas to maintain and monitor the devices. According to the National Institutes of Health, AED use in community settings is associated with nearly doubling survival rates following out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Township police officers will continue carrying AEDs in their patrol vehicles as well.
At the Department of Public Works, crews are replacing the township's existing salt storage shed with a larger structure featuring bin-block construction and a steel frame. Officials said the increased capacity will improve winter storm preparedness and allow the township to take advantage of bulk salt purchasing opportunities.
Meanwhile, improvements continue at Chubb Park. Mayor Drag thanked the Twin Boro Bears Football program for installing a new scoreboard at the facility ahead of the upcoming football season.
"We look forward to a great season ahead for both the boys' and girls' teams playing under the lights this fall," Drag said.
The township is also marking the nation's upcoming semiquincentennial celebration. Through an effort led by the Chester Township Environmental Commission, volunteers recently planted additional trees throughout the community, including a commemorative tree at Chubb Park honoring America's 250th birthday.
Drag thanked township volunteers and commission members for their work on the project, calling it an important addition to the community's ongoing beautification efforts.
