Thorne Middle School Middletown Township Public Schools

September 27, 2017

Today was the 2nd Annual Ribbons of Hope Day at Thorne Middle School in Port Monmouth (Middletown), NJ. This year, the celebration centered around Colon Cancer Awareness.

We had door Decoration contests, fundraising efforts benefiting the Maria Frangella's Foundation for Colon Cancer Research (www.mfffccr.org) and the culminating activity of forming a giant blue ribbon in the field behind the school!

Coordinator of the event, Special Education Teacher Christine Giordano shares, "This event is a way to bring the entire Thorne Community together to begin our school year. Students and staff learn about a cause and establish a bond for the entire school year."

Principal Thomas Olausen adds, "I was really proud of our kids. It may seem like a daunting task to efficiently organize over 700 middle school children, but it took the kids rising to the occasion, being respectful and understanding what we are trying to accomplish. They were awesome!"
