Talk is heating up that Colts Neck native Al Golden is close to becoming Rutgers’ new football coach.
Golden is now the “top candidate” for the head coaching job, multiple sources tell NJ.com. The other contender is Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash.
Golden, 46, who briefly played pro for the Patriots, got his start coaching locally, as the offensive coordinator at Red Bank Catholic High School in 1993. He also graduated from Red Bank Catholic, where he played. He was most recently the head coach at the University of Miami.
