All-Women Lifeguard Tournament at Sandy Hook July 27

The tournament is open to the public and will consist of 10 athletic events for female lifeguards only.

Sandy Hook - The oldest and largest all-women lifeguard tournament in North America will be held at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area on Wednesday, July 27. The tournament consists of 10 athletic contests that highlight the fitness, skill, strength and endurance of the female participants.

The tournament is open to the public and all are welcome to come and watch. Carl Martinez, the head of the water safety program with the National Park Service, has been putting on the event since it started. Any female lifeguard, at a beach, lake or pool, can enter.

WHERE: Gateway National Recreation Area’s Sandy Hook Unit in Highlands, N.J., Beach Lot E.

Note: Event will take place rain or shine. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the beach in the summer as well as sunscreen. Bring water.
