Search Underway For Missing Boater In Sandy Hook Bay

HIGHLANDS, NJ — As of midday Monday, a large search effort is underway for a clammer or fisherman who went missing in Sandy Hook Bay.

At about noon Monday, the Atlantic Highlands Police Department posted to Facebook that residents may notice a large police and first responder response at the marina in that town, and in all of Sandy Hook Bay.

"A search and rescue effort is currently underway for what is believed to be a missing boat operator," said the Atlantic Highlands Police Department.

Witnesses reported seeing an NYPD helicopter very low in the sky over Atlantic Highlands municipal marina.

The person missing is believed to be a local fisherman or clammer and he went missing in a small boat.
