Camp Jinka, Middletown's free summer program for kids and teens impacted by a loved one’s diagnosis of a brain tumor, has received the Innovative Program Award from the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association.
Mayor Anthony P. Fiore marked receipt of the award with a ceremonial presentation at the June Township Committee meeting. Parks Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director Gregg A. Silva, Middletown Cultural and Arts Council President Mary Pearson, Poricy Park Director Joyce Ferejohn, JINKA Foundation Arts and Education Coordinator Jesse Chism and Poricy Park Conservancy Director Mary Meehan accepted the award.
The program is a collaboration between the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center, Jinka Foundation, the Middletown Arts Center, and Poricy Park. All the children attending camp have a loved one that is battling a brain tumor or has passed from one.
