MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The Port Monmouth First Aid Squad delivered a baby girl on the side of the Garden State Parkway in the Middletown area Sunday morning, Nov. 4.
The local first aid squad responded to a childbirth call on the Parkway at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday; the car was located at mile marker 113.2 in the northbound local lanes.
The mother and father were driving from Lakewood to Hackensack University Medical Center to deliver the baby (the woman's water broke Saturday), but the baby girl did not want to wait. When Port Monmouth First Aid arrived, the baby had just been born, but the umbilical cord was still attached.

EMS was also assisted on scene by troopers Rafanan and Cumming of the New Jersey State Police's Holmdel barracks, who kept the scene safe for all involved.
