Coast Guard Pulls Body Of Union Beach Woman From Raritan Bay

The body of a woman found on the beach in Staten Island Thursday morning has been confirmed to be Susan Mikson, 65, of Union Beach.

STATEN ISLAND, NJ — The body of a woman found off Staten Island Thursday morning has been confirmed to be Union Beach resident Susan Mikson.

A search started for the 65-year-old woman Wednesday night, with a search and rescue done by the U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police and NYPD. She is believed to have fallen off a boat in Raritan Bay, according to media reports.

An emergency call went out at about 11 p.m. Wednesday to search the waters of Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook and New York harbor, said a Coast Guard spokesman.

At about 7 a.m. Thursday, a Coast Guard helicopter found her body along the shoreline at Crookes Point in Staten Island, he said.

The woman was deceased when the Coast Guard found her.

Her identity was confirmed Friday afternoon by NJ State Police, which took over the investigation, along with Union Beach Police.

The Coast Guard spokesman said it was an extensive search for the woman that started at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

"We were out in full force: We had multiple boats from our Sandy Hook unit, a helicopter from Atlantic City and it was actually a helicopter from our Cape Cod station that found her," he said.
