Bones Found Underneath Home Of N.J. Serial Killer: Authorities

Bones were found underneath the home of a former serial killer who killed six people in 25 years, according to authorities.

Bones were found underneath the home this week of a former New Jersey serial killer who was convicted in the 1980s for killing at least six people over 25 years, authorities said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said bones were found at the home at 507 Sixth Ave. in Asbury Park is the former home of serial killer Richard Biegenwald, Monmouth County Prosecutor spokesperson Charlie Webster told The Asbury Park Press.

Police were digging around the front porch on Wednesday, tossing around sand and bricks and placing items into brown paper bags. Timothy Michael Smith, 56, told the newspaper he has lived in the house for three years in one of the apartments, but he never heard any rumors about the house.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says the bones could be animal remains and they are being tested by the medical examiner, according to News12. Here is a video of the MCPO working at the site:

Biegenwald was linked to murders in New Jersey in the 1970s and early 1980s, and he was arrested at the Sixth Avenue home in 1983. Biegenwald was originally sentenced to death, but that was overturned when New Jersey did away with capital punishment. He died in prison in 2008, according to the report.
