Bray Avenue Bridge Officially Reopens in Middletown
A well-used bridge out since Sandy hit is finally reopen to the public once again.
Middletown, NJ - The new Bray Avenue Bridge over Pews Creek officially reopened Monday.
Before Monday, the well-used Port Monmouth bridge had been closed since January 2013, after the already-aging bridge was completely overwhelmed by water from a tidal surge in Superstorm Sandy. Homes near the bridge were also swamped and badly damaged by the creek surge.
The 60-year-old bridge was already in deteriorating condition and then construction efforts to repair it were beset by multiple delays. Police, fire and EMS were forced to take a much longer route on Rt. 36 in the 3+ years the bridge was out.

The bridge was completely demolished and a new one was built. FEMA funding helped pay the majority of the bridge repairs, a Monmouth County spokeswoman said.
