Build a Doggy Splash Park (or visit ours)

At Dogs On The Farm we are always looking for fun additions to our dogs’ playtime, and this summer we are premiering a new option: Doggy Splash Park.  Many dogs love to play in our pools and enjoy jumping to catch squirting hose water, so the doggy splash park seemed like a great way to give our visiting dogs a cool new experience.

After a quick Google search we found a $500,000 dollar doggy splash park that had us drooling-one day we would love to have one like that to offer our guests!

Lacking a half million dollars to spend, however, we looked further and found a few fun alternatives that can be built in your own back yard with less than $20 in supplies.  This is a great project for kids to help with, and both kids and dogs will enjoy the cooling spray on hot summer days once it’s built.

I found this link on Pinterest for a homemade splash park , and followed the instructions.  It was surprisingly easy!

Definitely do a dry assembly first before gluing it together to make sure it would all fit together correctly.  I was initially concerned the water pressure would be too low, but I actually wound up drilling extra holes so it wouldn't spray so hard.  I recommend starting with a few small holes and testing it with your dog.  Some dogs prefer a harder spray and some may prefer a more misty version (if your dog prefers softer spray, you can even buy mister spray attachments to fit into the holes).

A quick tip: if you have a boisterous dog, consider weighting down the splash park with a couple rocks or sand bags because it is very light and could be knocked over.

The first splash park playtime was a success!  Most of the dogs in daycare that day tried it out and several could hardly be convinced to leave when it was time to go home.  The splash park was such a success we added a splash park day to our activity calendar every week in July.

I hope you have fun building your own splash park, and if you want to bring your dog to play in ours, check out our activities calendar here, and call (732) 872-7543 to book a day of daycare.
