Capone, Tobacco Are Middletown School Board's President, VP

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — At their Jan. 5 reorganization meeting, Frank Capone was sworn in as the Middletown Board of Education president and Jacqueline Tobacco was named vice president for 2022.

The positions of president and vice president are chosen and voted on by the rest of the school board.

Also, the newest BOE member Kate Farley was sworn onto the board. Farley won the school board election in November 2021 when she ran for the seat formerly held by Tom Giaimo, who chose not to seek re-election. Although Farley was the highest vote getter in the 2021 Middletown school board election, her running mate Jaime Sanacore did not win, something some people attributed to poor ballot placement.

Joan Minnuies and Deborah Wright were also congratulated for having been re-elected to their seats this past November.

The Board of Education is still determining its meeting calendar for 2022, but here are the so far confirmed upcoming meeting dates:

• Jan. 26 - BOE Workshop/Voting Meeting
• Feb. 3 - BOE Public Budget Workshop Meeting
• Feb. 15 - BOE Workshop Meeting
• Feb. 23 - BOE Voting Meeting

All Middletown school board meetings will still be held at the library until Gov. Phil Murphy drops the mask mandate in schools.

The public portion of these meetings will follow executive session at approximately 8 p.m.
