Car Drives Into Middletown Nail Salon Off Rt. 35: Photos

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A car drove into a nail salon off Rt. 35 in Middletown Twp. Thursday morning, Oct. 25, police announced.

The nail salon is Pink Salon and it's located in the Olde Village Pub small strip mall off Rt. 35. Just before 9 a.m. today, Middletown police got a 911 call of a car that had crashed into the building. The vehicle had struck the brick façade of the building.

"Thank God no one was inside the salon," owner Denise Terracciano told Patch this afternoon. "Usually somebody would be sitting right where he hit."

The driver, Thomas Catena, 49, of Keansburg, continued his forward acceleration, police said, eventually coming to a stop partially inside the building.

Units from Old Village Fire Company and the Middletown Twp. Fire Department Special Services Unit responded to the scene. There were no reported injuries, but the salon will remain closed until further notice, Pink Salon said. Pink Salon posted several photos on their Facebook page that show the extent of the damage; they are republished here with the salon's permission.

Terracciano said they may have to be closed for up to two weeks due to structural damage, and will offer customers up to 20 percent off once they re-open due to the inconvenience.

Catena was issued a summons for careless driving.
