A whale washed up in the area of the nude beach at Sandy Hook after floating adrift this week, according to authorities.

SANDY HOOK – A whale washed up in the area of the nude beach at Sandy Hook after floating adrift this week, according to authorities.

The 25-foot humpback whale washed up just south of Gunnison Beach on Tuesday night, Bob Schoelkopf, executive director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, told Patch.

Gunnison Beach is the "unclothed" beach at Gateway National Recreation Area.

Daphne Yun, a spokeswoman at Gateway National Recreation Area, said a 25-foot whale that had been floating off shore washed up about half a mile north from Beach F, the fishing beach. A necropsy was being performed on Wednesday.

Bill McKim's website, Jersey Shore Whale Watch Tour, has been monitoring this situation as it has been conducting "whale watching off the coast of Monmouth County” this week.
