DWI Checkpoints At Jersey Shore This Weekend

There will be DWI checkpoints at the Jersey Shore this weekend. Here's where they'll be.

Two DWI checkpoints will be set up in Monmouth County this weekend:

  • One will be in Bradley Beach, where cars will be pulled from the southbound lanes of Route 71 into the Rain Tunnel Car Wash parking lot. It will be held between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, according to the law office of Frederick P. Sisto and The Asbury Park Press.
  • Another will be held between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. Avon will pull over cars from the southbound lanes of Route 71 onto Garfield Ave to determine the drivers' sobriety, according to the reports.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office also is warning motorists about its DWI checkpoint program, although it hasn't disclosed where the checkpoints will be.

Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said 38 people were killed on Ocean County roads last year, and impaired drivers are responsible for a third of overall deaths each year.

The county has added drug recognition experts to the DWI checkpoint program. Each police department will have at least drug experts at the checkpoint or on-call if needed.

The checkpoint program is funded by the Ocean County Freeholder Board and the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety, and will be conducted by local police agencies in conjunction with detectives from the Prosecutor’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit.
