Here is your warning: There will be extra DUI police patrols out this weekend, Aug. 12, 13 and 14, throughout the Bayshore region. There are no specific roadways mentioned, but Rt. 35 and 36 "will obviously be a focus and police will be throughout the Bayshore," Chief John Powers of Aberdeen Township Police said.
The Bayshore Task Force, which is comprised of police departments in Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Hazlet, Holmdel, Highlands, Keyport, Keansburg, Matawan, Middletown, and Union Beach, will all be deploying officers as part of a DWI Saturation Patrol over the upcoming weekend, Chief Powers announced Thursday morning. There will also be a DWI checkpoint set up from 11 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday in Sea Bright, Patch has learned.
“If you want to stay safe this weekend, make a plan to get home without driving if you’ve been drinking,” said Powers, who is President of the Bayshore Task Force. “Even one drink impairs judgement and buzzed driving is drunk driving.”

Nine of the departments were awarded grants from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety to conduct saturation patrols over a twelve-month period. The remainder will use Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds. Additional saturation patrols will be scheduled to coincide with holidays and other periods prone to increases in DWI-related crashes.
