MIDDLETOWN, NJ — "Flavortown" comes to Middletown!

This past Friday, April 1 celebrity chef and Food Network star Guy Fieri stopped by Middletown.

Fieri was in the area because he partnered with local businesses to feed 400 veterans through his non-profit, the Guy Fieri Foundation. The BBQ lunch was held Friday afternoon at the Port Monmouth VFW Post 2179, and 400 local Middletown veterans and their families were there.

Some of the food was also donated by Middletown restaurants.

The Guy Fieri Foundation did this because thanking military veterans is important to Fieri, as he has occasionally mentioned on his hit show. Fieri actually helped cook the barbecue, according to the Port Monmouth VFW.

"Fieri and his team cooked meals for 400 people in attendance, which included VFW members and other veterans, first responders and their families as part of their 'Honoring Heroes Event' series," they wrote.

And VFW junior vice commander Duane Sarmiento gave Fieri a personalized t-shirt from the Port Monmouth VFW.

Several NFL alumni and Port Monmouth VFW Commander Frank Cannon were also in attendance.

The Middletown Township Committee also presented Fieri with a key to the Township on Friday.
