MIDDLETOWN, NJ — As February is Black History Month, the Monmouth County Park System will host "Freedom Stories" from 2-2:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 9 at the Tatum Park Red Hill Activity Center on Red Hill Road in Middletown. A second performance is offered from 4-4:45 p.m. that same day.

Join gifted storyteller Tahira for a compelling look at the men and women who took extraordinary risks for freedom under U.S. slavery. This dramatic performance includes freedom songs such as “John the Rabbit,” which contained coded messages used by enslaved Africans to devise a plan of escape.

This program emphasizes the importance of having courage in the face of inequality and injustice. The show is open to all ages; under 18 with adult.

The cost is $5 per person per show; pre-registration accepted; cash or check only onsite.
