Illegal Gun Found In Belford Car Stop Last Wednesday Night

Last Wednesday night in Belford, Middletown Police arrested a California man for illegal possession of a handgun, plus bullets.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Last Wednesday night in Belford, Middletown Police arrested a California man for illegal possession of a handgun, plus bullets.

The man was found with the illegal gun after police pulled him over off Rt. 36 for a motor vehicle violation.

At approximately 12:33 a.m. Aug. 3 (technically Thursday), a Middletown squad car pulled the car over for a motor vehicle violation in the area of Rt. 36 and Main Street. Police did not say why they originally stopped the car.

The driver, Rajiv U. Bryant, 31, of Emeryville California, had the unlicensed gun. He was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of high-capacity magazines and possession of hollow-point ammunition.

Bryant was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Monmouth County jail.

The Middletown police officers who first stopped the car and found the illegal gun were patrolmen Shane Hall and Aidan Cary.
