Immediate Care Medical Walk-In Presents Check to Darrell Rogers

Immediate Care Medical Walk-In Presents Fundraising Check to Basketball Player Darrell Rogers

Salvatore Cannizzaro, the CEO of Immediate Care Medical Walk-In Management located in Red Bank, presented a fundraising check on January 16th to Darrell Rogers, the young basketball player from Matawan who went into cardiac arrest last spring while on the basketball court.

On May 21, 2018, during Darrell’s sophomore year at Matawan-Aberdeen High School, Darrell went into cardiac arrest when making a layup during an AAU basketball practice. Darrell’s coach Sean Sheppard and another basketball coach, Chris Schulster, performed CPR on him. Darrell was then transported by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. For the past 8 months, Darrell’s determination, strength, and positive spirit have beat the odds. Though he is not out on the court to date, he attends most of the home games on the bench surrounded by his teammates. Darrell is currently in speech and occupational therapy three times a week, and with his strong determination and dream to play pro one day, he hopes to be back out playing within a year.

Darrell’s loving and supportive family, teammates, high school, friends, and community have rallied around him for the past several months with numerous fundraisers. Darrell’s family has been challenged by the ongoing uncertainty of insurance coverage. One fundraiser for Darrell was the Ball For Life, sponsored by Immediate CareMedical Walk-In. This event took place in July of 2018 in the parking lot of Airport Plaza in Hazlet in front of Immediate Care Medical Walk-In. This fundraiser included a performance by Darrell’s high school jazz band, food, door prizes, a bake sale organized by the teachers, and an appearance from The Boss, 107.1. Immediate Care Medical Walk-In’s goal for this fundraiser was to not only raise additional funds for Darrell, but to increase awareness about Darrell’s GoFundMe page and to launch a sports physical fundraiser for the month of August. For each sports physical performed at any of the nine Immediate Care Medical Walk-In locations in August, $10 was donated to Darrell. The total raised from the sports physical fundraiser was $700.

“We wish Darrell great success as he moves forward and faces new adventures. We are very proud to see his determination, strength and love of life,” said Salvatore Cannizzaro, CEO of Immediate Care Medical Walk-In Management.

The sports physical fundraising check was presented to Darrel and his family at the Immediate Care Medical Walk-In in Hazlet. This check is the first of this on-going fundraiser as Immediate Care will continue to donate $10 for each sports physical performed through August of 2019 at any of the nine locations.
