Jersey Shore Shark Attack History, Presented By Middletown Historical

On Oct. 25, the Middletown Historical Society will give a lecture chronicling all the shark attacks that happened along the Jersey Shore:

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Do you like learning about shark attacks on the Jersey Shore?

Not just the tragic Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916, when four people, including an 11-year-old Matawan boy, were killed by sharks in one single month, July, and a fifth person badly injured.

But on Oct. 25, the Middletown Historical Society will give a free lecture chronicling all the shark attacks that happened along the Jersey Shore, from 1842 to the present.

The lecture will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Middletown Library.

Author Patricia Heyer will present on her book, Shark Attacks of the Jersey Shore: A History. The book details human/shark encounters along the Jersey Shore from 1842 through the present. Her book has 60 accounts of shark attacks up and down the Jersey Shore in that time period.
