Keansburg Man Shot Keyport Man Tuesday, Prosecutor Says

What police are saying was an attempted murder took place at 9 a.m. Tuesday on the 100 block of Highland Boulevard in Keansburg:

KEANSBURG, NJ — A man shot another man Tuesday morning in Keansburg, and the suspect has been taken into custody and criminally charged, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Wednesday.

The alleged shooter is Yacir James, 26, from Keansburg. His victim is a Keyport resident, said police.

At approximately 9:07 a.m. Tuesday, Keansburg Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Highland Boulevard for a report of shots fired. Police also got a 911 call about a possible shooting victim at the corner of Maplewood Avenue and Highland Boulevard.

Upon arrival, Keansburg Police discovered a male victim in the street, suffering from a single gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

James was taken into custody a short time later. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder and multiple illegal weapons offenses.
