Keansburg Woman Made Bomb Threat At Middletown Gym, Police Say

A Keansburg woman was charged with making a bomb threat at the Middletown Planet Fitness Thursday. The Rt. 35 gym was evacuated.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A Keansburg woman was charged with making a bomb threat at the Middletown Planet Fitness on Thursday. The Rt. 35 gym and nearby businesses were briefly evacuated today.

Earlier today, Middletown police responded to Planet Fitness, located at 500 State Route 35, for a report of a bomb threat. Also responding to the call were members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Middletown Twp. Fire Department, and the Middletown Twp. Fire Marshall’s Office.

The gym and nearby businesses were evacuated when police got there, and explosive-detection dogs from Middletown Twp. Police and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene, Lt. Paul Bailey said. The building was cleared and the threat was determined to be a false alarm.

Emily M. McCormick, 19, of Keansburg, was charged with making the threat, Middletown police said. When asked if she was a gym employee or client, police would not release any further information. The threat was not called in, Lt. Bailey said.

"We learned about it third hand," he told Patch.

McCormick was charged with one count of false public alarm.
