Learn about Veggies with Master Gardeners Bob Mellert and Ellen Simonetti at Middletown Art Center

Interested in starting a vegetable garden? Do you have questions you cannot answer about growing vegetables? Join us on April 18!

If you are interested in a vegetable garden, join our club members on April 18 to hear Master Gardeners Bob Mellert and Ellen Simonetti discuss the planting and care of vegetables. An assortment of herbs and
vegetables will be available for sale at our Plant Sale in May to help you start your own vegetable garden and use your knowledge that you will have gained from the program. Call Nancy Canade at (973)-452-4846 for further information about this program.

Please also join the Garden Club R.F.D. on May 12, from 12 noon to 6pm and May 13, from 9am to 3pm at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Middletown Lincroft Road in Middletown for their Annual Plant Sale that helps to support our historic site and our work in the community. Your daffodils will have faded and you should be ready for more plants to dot your landscape with color and beauty. One featured plant will be the hydrangea—including one that climbs. Another is the “Phenomenal” lavender (see picture)—the toughest lavender there is, able to tolerate heat and humidity, deer proof and—it survives the winter. With flowers perfect for fresh and dried arrangements, the fragrant 24” plants are beautiful in the cottage garden, on a border or around the patio. There will also be a variety of hostas to choose from, some for the shady areas of your property and others that are sun tolerant. And new this year will be a Help Desk where your questions can be answered by Master Gardeners and where information sheets from Rutgers Gardens can be obtained that will answer other questions. Contact Linda Paula at lpaula101@gmail.com or 732-681-9189 for more information about the Plant Sale.

The wonderful world of plants and flowers awaits you.
