June 18th 2016, Civic Center; Manhattan-
The organization, “Vote Run Lead” presented a program entitled “Dare to Lead”. The event was simultaneously live streamed to seven other major cities in the country such as Denver and St. Louis. The future really is female. Approximately 150 of the best and brightest women in the TriState Area were in attendance. The live NYC audience ranged from former Olympic athletes, to various city council members, to inspired teenagers looking to run for student council. One member seated in this prestigious audience was Mrs. Lisa Powell. Lisa is a Social Studies teacher actively seeking employment in the Middletown district and was the recipient of the Veteran’s Alliance Scholarship. Since Mrs. Powell is a proud USCG military spouse, she was eligible to attend this event for free after completing an application stating what leadership means to her. Lisa’s application was chosen amongst hundreds of military spouse applicants. At the event, Lisa had the opportunity to meet: Rina Shah Bharara (Panelist , To the Contrary), Analisa Balares (CEO of Womensphere), Minerva Tantaco (Chief Technology Officer, City of New York), Adrienne Lever (Director of changepolitics.org), Letitia James (Public Advocate for the City of New York), Melissa Silverstein (Artistic Director of the Athena Film Festival), Tiffany Pham (CEO Mogul), L. Joy Williams (Founder of LJW Strategies), Britney Whaley (Chief of Staff, NY Assembly member Blake), Stephenie Berger (Treasurer of Vote Run Lead), Lea Webb (Binghamton City Council), Jacqueline Manuel (IGNITE), Kristin Hayden (IGNITE) and Na’ilah Amaru (Advocacy and Policy strategist). Lisa is thankful for having had this opportunity and is looking forward to taking the new leadership and civic strategies that were presented and passing them onto her future students. This new material will surely assist in shaping future productive members of the Middletown community.
