Middletown Climbing Gym Celebrates One Year Anniversary

On February 8th, 2014, local business owner Sam Wright celebrated the grand opening of the Jersey Shore’s first state-of-the-art indoor rock climbing facility. Hosting an impressive 14,000 square feet of open climbing space the gym provides over 60 top-rope stations, two large bouldering walls with over 100 problems, a 20 foot lead climbing arch, a rappel tower, and numerous beginner walls. With a wide variety of programs and classes, the gym provides something for climbers of all ages and experience levels.

Since opening, Sam has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and The Gravity Vault Middletown has been highlighted in many local and state-wide publications. The local community has embraced rock climbing with open arms, which Sam believes may be attributed to a similar culture shared by the local surfing community.

Within their first year the gym has already grown its member base to over 400 climbers, hosted numerous scouting troops and birthday parties, and taught over 600 new climbers how to safely climb indoors. With two Climbing Teams and a variety of after school classes for youth climbers of any experience level, the new sport has captivated the interest of many young athletes. Specific programs for adults include technique classes, instructional courses, or fitness programs.
