Local Rock Climbing Gym Celebrates Three Years Anniversary!

Rock climbing in 2020 Olympics, local climbing gym celebrates three years, and *four* young athletes make their way to nationals this year!

On February 8th, 2014, local business owner Sam Wright celebrated the grand opening of the Jersey Shore’s first state-of-the-art indoor rock climbing facility. Hosting an impressive 14,000 square feet of open climbing space the gym provides over 60 top-rope stations, two large bouldering walls with over 100 problems, a 20 foot lead climbing arch, a rappel tower, and numerous beginner walls. With a wide variety of programs and classes, the gym provides something for climbers of all ages and experience levels! Specific programs for adults include technique classes, instructional courses, yoga, and fitness programs.

Since opening, Sam has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and The Gravity Vault Middletown has been highlighted in many local and state-wide publications. The local community has embraced rock climbing with open arms, which Sam believes may be attributed to a similar culture shared by the local surfing community.

Within their first three years, they gym has become home to over 600 active members, hosted numerous scouting troops and birthday parties, and taught over thousands of new climbers how to safely climb indoors. With three Climbing Teams and a variety of after school classes for youth climbers of any experience level, and the introduction of rock climbing to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, rock climbing has captivated the interest of many young athletes; congratulations to four of our team members who are going to the national competition this season - Abigail Naidich, Ella Naidich, Kassidy Torchia, and James Dews!
