Man, Dog Rescued from Shrewsbury River Island Thursday Night

He was a hunter and the high winds had blown his boat away, stranding him on the island.

SEA BRIGHT, NJ - A man and his dog had to be rescued Thursday night after they got stuck on an island in the Shrewsbury River, according to Monmouth County police, fire and EMS radio calls. First responders from Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach were called to the island off Riverview Road at about 5 p.m. Thursday. This was after the man had been seen frantically waving his arms and screaming for help, Reed Murphy, whose son assisted in the rescue, told NJ.com.

He was a hunter and the high winds had blown his boat away, stranding him on the island. Sea Bright's fire boat, Marine 43, approached the island and the man and his dog waded through the water to get to the boat. They were aided by rescue swimmers. They were brought ashore at 7:15 p.m. and were treated by EMS.
