“Support continues to grow as more government agencies, legislators and citizens learn about this unnecessary, redundant project. Only a small portion of the $111 million dollar project addresses the primary culprit in our power outages: antiquated lines and substations requiring upgrades. The remaining funds, approximately $107 million is designated for new infrastructure for a third, unnecessary line that may never need to be used if history is any precedent for the future.” notes RAGE President Rachael Kanapka. “Our electric consumption continues to decrease and if reliability is an issue, this project won’t fix local reliability problems.”
Officials opposed to the project and concerned about its merits as presented include: Congressmen Chris Smith and Frank Pallone, NJ State Assemblywoman Amy Handlin, NJ State Senator Joseph Kyrillos, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, 10 Bayshore Mayors and all five affected town committees, Boards of Education representing Hazlet, Holmdel and Middletown, along with numerous state and local non-profit and non-governmental environmental, historic and civic organizations.
