Middletown Amps Up Drunk Driving Patrols This Holiday Season

"In Middletown, the number of DWIs jumps dramatically during the holiday season," said Middletown Police Chief R. Craig Weber.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Now through Jan. 1, Middletown police will increase their patrols looking for drunk, buzzed or high drivers this holiday season.

Beginning December 6 through January 1, the Middletown Township Police Department and state law enforcement officials will be conducting saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints looking for motorists who may be driving while intoxicated.

“In Middletown, the number of DWIs jumps dramatically during the holiday season, so it is imperative that we make the community aware that the Middletown police department is enforcing this for their own safety,” said Middletown Police Chief R. Craig Weber.

This is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," which happens nationally during every Christmas seasons. During the last five years New Jersey has experienced nearly 37,000 alcohol-involved crashes, resulting in more than 679 fatalities.
