The Middletown Democratic Party calls on U.S. Senator Robert Menendez to resign in the wake of the allegations against him and his wife.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The following is a press release released Thursday by the Middletown Democratic Party, calling on U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, a Democrat, to resign in the wake of the allegations against him and his wife:

"The Middletown Democrats firmly believe in the integrity of our democratic institutions and the trust that our elected officials must maintain with the public. We believe it is essential that our representatives in Congress uphold the highest standards of ethics, accountability and transparency. With that in mind, we respectfully call upon Senator Robert Menendez to step down from his position as a United States Senator.

"Recent events and allegations surrounding Senator Menendez have cast a shadow over his ability to effectively represent the best interests of our state and the nation. While we acknowledge the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty' in legal matters, maintaining the public's trust is paramount.
