Middletown To Hold Silent Tribute On Sept. 11

Middletown will hold a silent tribute for its 37 residents who died 14 years ago in the World Trade Center attacks.

The tribute, which will include a wreath-laying ceremony, will be held at the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens on at 8:46 a.m. Sept. 11, according to a news release from the township.

The time marks the moment when the first plane hit the towers.

Members of the township committee, police and fire departments, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179, American Legion Post 338 and American Legion Post 515 are expected to attend the ceremony.

“At times, silence speaks volumes,” Mayor Stephanie C. Murray said in a prepared statement. “Middletown’s 9/11 Tribute enables each of us to have a private moment while still coming together to reflect on the tragedy and loss of the day.”

According to the news release:

The Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens are open daily, from dawn to dusk. The gardens are next to the Middletown Arts Center at 36 Church St.

An American flag that was flown over the World Trade Center on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks will be flown at the Memorial Gardens during this year’s ceremony.

An American flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in memory of Middletown residents will fly at Town Hall.

Donations for the perpetual maintenance of the gardens can be sent to: Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens, c/o Mayor’s Office, Middletown Township, 1 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ 07748.
