Middletown Man, 71, Dies In House Fire Friday Night

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A 71-year-old Middletown man was killed in a house fire at his home Friday evening, April 2, according to Middletown Police.

At approximately 7:54 p.m. Friday, Middletown Twp. Police responded to a home on Dakota Avenue in the North Middletown section. Upon arrival, officers were able to confirm that there was an active structure fire.

Units from the all-volunteer Middletown Twp. Fire Department responded to the scene to battle the fire.

The body of the deceased resident, John Dowd, 71, was located inside the home by firefighters.

Middletown Twp. Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are currently engaged in a joint investigation of the incident.
