Middletown Man Involved In Serious Rt. 79 Crash Monday

A Middletown man got into a serious crash Monday evening in Marlboro Township, crashing into a telephone pole and bringing down power lines.

MARLBORO TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Middletown man got into a serious crash Monday evening in Marlboro Township, crashing into a telephone pole and bringing down several power lines, according to Marlboro Police.

The Middletown man, 46, survived the crash and had to be hospitalized. He was not identified by name by Marlboro Police.

The crash happened at 7:45 p.m. Monday on Rt. 79 in the area of Bucks Lane. The Middletown man was driving a Mercedes SUV, which struck a curb and then a telephone pole, bringing down power lines.

The SUV turned over and came to rest on its side.

Rt. 79 was closed between Stevenson Drive and Vanderburg Road and did not reopen until early Tuesday morning.

The man was the only occupant of the car. He was transported to a local hospital by members of the Marlboro First Aid Squad for precautionary reasons. The cause of the crash is still be investigated. No criminal charges were filed or are expected to be filed.
