Middletown Plaza Walgreens, Dollar King Permanently Closing
Big changes continue at the former Middletown ShopRite Plaza, as first ShopRite moved across Rt. 35 and now Walgreens is closing on Feb. 28.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The Walgreens on Rt. 35 in Middletown will be closing at the end of the month, a spokeswoman for Walgreens corporate offices confirmed to Patch.
This is the Walgreens (that used to be the RiteAid) located on the corner of Rt. 35 and Harmony Road in Middletown Plaza. It will close on Feb. 28, said the Walgreens spokesperson.
So now Middletown Plaza will have three vacant spaces: The ShopRite, the Dollar King and now Walgreens. In June of last year, the Middletown ShopRite moved across Rt. 35 into the old Sears building. The Dollar King just closed this winter.

"Two empty spaces that we hope will be turned into great new businesses," said Mayor Tony Perry. "You never want to see a business close. But the owner of that plaza is putting work into it; I know they are adding electric vehicle charging stations to attract customers and business."
It remains unknown what will move into the Walgreens space once they close. A tenant has also not been found for the old ShopRite space, which is massive, or for the DollarKing.
