Middletown Sears On List To Close In Bankruptcy Filing

The Middletown Sears at 1500 Highway 35 will close by the end of the year, and liquidation sales will likely start there soon.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Goodbye, Middletown Sears. The Middletown Sears at 1500 Highway 35 is one of 142 nationwide that will be shuttered by the company as Sears Holdings files for Chaper 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Middletown Sears is one of 142 Sears and Kmart stores, and three in the state of New Jersey, that will permanently close, the company announced on Monday. Middletown is on their list of stores to close in the legal bankruptcy filing Sears Holdings filed early Monday morning.

Sears Holdings, the parent company of Sears as well as Kmart, made the filing in federal court in New York. The Middletown Sears will close by the end of the year, and liquidation sales will likely start there soon. As of Monday morning's filing, the three Sears that will close in New Jersey are:

  • Sears, 1500 Highway 35, Middletown
  • Sears, 1750 Deptford Center Rd., Deptford
  • Kmart, 779 Delsea Dr North, Glassboro

This comes on the heels of 46 other Sears and Kmarts that were already set to close by the end of November.

Earlier this year, the Sears at the Ocean County Mall in Toms River closed. It will be replaced with restaurants, a gym and more stores, the Toms River Patch reported.
