MIDDLETOWN, NJ — At its scheduled Thursday night meeting, the Middletown Board of Education was set to hire Mary Ellen Walker as the new superintendent of schools, but the meeting was canceled because her contract was still being written.

Also, the BOE was going to approve Middletown's hybrid back-to-school plan — where students with last names A-K will be in school Mondays and Tuesdays, and L-Z Thursdays and Fridays — but the district had to make sure it was in compliance with this long set of rules released by the Murphy administration just Thursday afternoon, according Middletown Board of Ed. president Pam Rogers.

The meeting has been rescheduled to Aug. 26, at which time Walker will likely be approved by the board to the position.
